After purchasing a guitar in Wolf's music store Shawn asked his friend to give him a few lessons. Wolf agreed to teach Shawn in exchange for trombone lessons. At the end of Shawn's first guitar lesson they switched instruments and played through a few jazz standards. From that point on the duo was formed. Wolf never received a trombone lesson and Shawn put guitar lessons on permanent hold.
